The Delightful Festival (African Delights, Asian Delights, Caribbean Delights and Latinx Delights) celebrates Jamaica's vibrant immigrant communities by presenting a series of free evenings of ethnic cuisine, music and cinema.

COVID-19 forced us to cancel the second half of last year's programming, but we are pleased to announce that The Delightful Festival is back -- virtually.

We may not be able to be delightful in the same room this Spring, but we can still be delightful together -- from the comfort of our homes -- via Zoom, Facebook and YouTube.

Join us for the second of four delightful events this year, as we continue the tradition of celebrating Jamaica's immigrant communities through the food, music and cinema that is: The Delightful Festival.

Haitian Delights

Who: A Better Jamaica
What: The Delightful Festival: Haitian Delights
When: Saturday, May 15th -- 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm
Where: Online via Zoom, Facebook and YouTube
How Much: Still Free

Haitian Delights - Haiti and Haitians are delightful. You need proof of this, then join us for Haitian Delights. Use your complimentary $15 DoorDash Gift Card to order from your favorite local Haitian restaurant, and then join us for our dinner party via Zoom.

After dinner we'll be joined by Paul Beaubrun & Zing Experience at 7:00 pm via Facebook or YouTube. A scion of Haitian musical royalty, Paul has spent his life living to the beat. Son of the Grammy nominated band Boukman Eksperyans, his earliest memories are of rhythm and sound. Moving to New York as a youth he was inspired by his heritage to begin crafting a sound all his own. Constantly aware of his roots, the struggle of an immigrant and the drive of New York life, Paul began to create a path where music, activism and history meet. A unique and transfixing sound he calls 'Roots/Blues', Paul weaves his impeccable guitar skills, rich, vocals, musical ingenuity and cultural history together; all while performing a smooth melange of both English, French and Creole (the native tongue of his Haitian roots).

After the music we'll watch Kafe Negro, which tells the story of migrations around a small grain that has become the second most important raw material on the global market. This film tells the story of the waves of migration of Haitian workers who, over time, have profoundly transformed the culture and demography of Cuba and allowed the development of coffee growing on the island. Directed by Mario Delatour | Cuba & Haiti | 2020 | Documentary | French and Spanish with English Subtitles
