We can get more 1st graders reading at grade level

Let's help 1st graders who are struggling with their reading!

Hi all,

I wanted to do something good and make the world a better place. When I learned that less than 50% of 3rd graders in southeast Queens are reading on grade level, I knew I had to help.

That's why I've become a reader/fundraiser for this year's Jamaica Read-a-thon. The Jamaica Read-a-thon is the primary means by which individuals can support A Better Jamaica's Jamaica Reads program. The Jamaica Reads program deploys senior citizens to local elementary schools, where the seniors provide one-on-one tutoring to 1st graders struggling with the acquisition of their reading skills.

A Better Jamaica's campaign to get 1st graders reading on grade level will ensure the academic success of the students in the short, medium, and long-term. You can help ensure this success.
